Medicare Supplement

Original Medicare provides basic coverage, but you may find that Original Medicare alone does not provide you with enough protection.
Many medical services and supplies are not covered by Original Medicare, including annual physical exams, hearing aids and routine eye care.

These plans cover some of the costs for hospital, medical and surgical services that are not covered by Medicare, and may offer other services as well. And, you continue to choose any doctor, hospital or healthcare provider that accepts Medicare.

Medicare Supplement plans no longer include prescription drug coverage. If you purchase a Medicare Supplement plan, or decide to stay with Original Medicare, you may want to:

Add prescription drug coverage by enrolling in a Medicare Prescription Drug Plan offered by a private company. Make sure the plan you choose covers the prescriptions you are currently taking.

Medicare Advantage Plan

The most common plans are Medicare Advantage-Prescription Drug Plans, which include Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage along with Original Medicarebenefits and additional benefits not covered by Medicare.

Many Medicare Advantage plans have no or low monthly plan premiums and no or low Part D deductibles. Most require only a copayment when you receive a covered service or drug, although some plans may have annual limits.

Other, less common types of Medicare Advantage plans include Medicare Advantage HMOs without Medicare Part D prescription drug coverage, Medicare Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs), Medicare Private Fee-For-Service Plans (PFFS) and Medicare Specialty Plans. You can find out more information on these types of plans at www.medicare.gov.
